ADS Awards and Grants

ADS Registration Grants

This year a number of ADS Registration Grants will be awarded to junior investigators who have an abstract accepted for presentation at the 2021 ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress that will be held as an online virtual meeting from Wednesday 11 to Friday 13 August 2021. The ADS ADC Registration Grants will be to the value of A$290 per eligible applicant. The number of grants will be determined according to the number and suitability of applications and the funds available. Applications will be prioritised using abstract review scores.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS for 12 months at the time of application
(Applicant must have joined as a member of ADS no later than July 2020 and Paid subs for 2021)
2. In training for a higher degree eg. PhD, MD, fellowship or medical specialty
3. Supported by a statement from the candidate's supervisor or department head indicating the nature of their present position and the availability of other sources of financial support for their registration to the congress
4. Registartion Grants will be made directly to the member and not their respective institution
5. Abstracts must be submitted and accepted for sessions within the ADS program only (clinical or basic science)

Note: Applicants must not be in receipt of a grant from any other body to attend the ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress or a meeting in association with the ADS/ADEA ADC.

Best ADS Clinical Presentation Award in memory of Dr Paul Lee

The Best ADS Clinical Presentation Award in memory of Dr Paul Lee is to the value of A$1,250. The finalists will be categorised into Clinical Research and the award will be given to the best oral presentation by an ADS member at the ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress that will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, QLD from Wednesday 11 to friday 13 August 2021 and judged by peer review and a committee appointed by the ADS Council. 2019 was the inaugural year of this annual award.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS for 12 months at the time of application
(Member must have joined as a member of ADS no later than July 2020 and Paid subs for 2021)
2. Applicants must be a mid-career clinical researcher (4-10 years post-doctoral)
3. Each applicant must provide a supporting statement indicating that the work presented is substantially their own work
4. 6-8 applicants will be selected from the submitted abstracts to present in the award session
5. Previous winners of this award are in-eligible to apply
6. Finalist applicants must present work of abstract submitted for the conference; if not they will be in-eligible to receive the award

ADS Poster Awards

ADS Poster Awards for both Basic Science and Clinical Research will be on offer during the 2021 ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress. ADS Poster Awards are to the value of A$500 each.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS (Paid subs for 2021)
2. Applicants must be an early career researcher
3. You must be available to present at the time of the poster session
4. Each applicant must provide a supporting statement including one signed by his/her supervisor or department head, indicating that the work presented is substantially the candidate’s own work

ADS-Pincus Taft Young Investigator Award

The ADS-Pincus Taft Young Investigator Award is to the value of A$2000. The finalists will be categorised into Basic Science and the award will be given to the best oral presentation by a junior ADS member at the ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress as judged by peer review and a committee appointed by the ADS Council.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS for 12 months at the time of application
(Member must have joined as a member of ADS no later than July 2020 and Paid subs for 2021)
2. Applicants must not be more than 2 years beyond the award of a doctoral degree (PhD, MD) or fellowship (FRACP)
3. Each applicant must provide a supporting statement including one signed by his/her supervisor or department head, indicating that the work presented is substantially the candidate’s own work
4. Previous winners of this award are in-eligible to apply
5. Finalist applicants must present work of abstract submitted for the conference; if not they will be in-eligible to receive the award

6-8 applicants will be selected from abstracts to present in the ADS-Pincus Taft Young Investigators Session.

ADEA Awards and Grants

Roche ADC Registration Grants

There are 17 x registration assistance grants to be awarded, which will cover 50% of the virtual registration cost.

Credentialled Diabetes Educators or those who are working towards becoming a CDE can claim CPD points for attending ADC 2021.

Eligibility is as follows:

  • Applicants must be a financial member of ADEA for at least twelve months at the time of application.
  • Applicants must not have received a Travel Grant or Registration Assistance Grant from ADEA to attend ADEA conferences, i.e. ADC or Branch Conferences, in the previous two years.
  • Applicants must not have received a grant from any other body as assistance to attend ADC2021 or a meeting held in association with ADC2021.
  • Applicants must not have received financial support from ADEA through various activities, i.e. Case Study Competition, CDE of the Year, in the previous two years.
  • Evidence of active participation in ADC2021, if any, i.e. submitted abstracts or participation in ADEA committees or special interest groups, will support your application (optional).
  • This prize is non-transferable and not redeemable for cash.

Roche Abstract Awards

Roche Best New Presenter Oral Presentation Award

The Roche Best New Presenter Oral Presentation Award is to the value of $1,000. Applicants must be a financial member of the ADEA at the time the award is announced.

Eligibility: This category is granted to ADEA members who are presenting for the first time at the Australasian Diabetes Congress.

The Award Winner will be invited to share their presentation with ADEA members via the ADEA website.

Roche Best Oral Presentation Award

The Roche Best Oral Presentation Award is to the value of $1,000. Applicants must be a financial member of the ADEA at the time the award is announced.

The Award Winner will be invited to share their presentation with ADEA members via the ADEA website.

Roche Best Poster Award

The Roche Best Poster Award is to the value of $800. Applicants must be a financial member of the ADEA at the time the award is announced.

The Award Winner will be invited to share their poster with ADEA members via the ADEA website.

Roche Best New Presenter Poster Award

The Roche Best New Presenter Poster Award is to the value of $800. Applicants must be a financial member of the ADEA at the time the award is announced.
